NATIONS
The year is 982 AI and the continent of Scimarazand is slowly leaving the age of steel and entering the age of gunpowder. With the exceptions of the Wild Lands and the Dwarven Peaks the entire continent was once ruled by the Empire of Barravar and has now split apart into a number of squabling nations each set on it's own path. Due to the empires influence in the past most everyone on Scimarazand speaks Barravian or some sort of offshoot of it, with only the elves changing back to their ancestral tongues. Although there is a trade tongue it sees little use except for merchants and foreign dignitarys.
Science and engineering are slowly starting to come into their own, with muskets and cannons replacing war wizards, and dwarven steamships replacing expensive airships that suffer greatly in bad weather. Universitys dedicated to new ways of learning are beginning to take root and the reliance on magic to get things done is starting to wane.
Spread across the continent are old ruins built by a race simply named the Elders, many of these ruins defy description or purpose. Some are built into the side of mountains such as the city of walls, another is a city and bridge melded together and now sits empty, and some simply make no sense at all. The only thing known for sure is that when they are first found they are all dangerous, wether due to what has moved, odd dangerous traps, strange magics, and rival adventurers seeking wealth from the depths.
